    Education

In order to change the face of Africa, her people must be given opportunities to change their own destinies.

Child Legacy International's primary focus for children and adults is education with the intention of increasing life-saving knowledge, equipping individuals with culturally applicable skills, and creating motivated leaders for the future.

Promoting Excellence in ZIMBABWE

Children in schoolThe kids at our Children’s Home in Zimbabwe have achieved some of the highest standardized testing scores in the area due to the high-quality care and nutrition they receive at the home.

To further safeguard our children’s futures, we offer a bridge program which allows each child to transfer into our vocational training school upon completion of primary and secondary schooling with some choosing skills training and some opting for formal university or employment at Child Legacy International's facilities.

Building Character in KENYA

Rogers with Budalangi children Since 2004, Child Legacy International has supported New Hope Academy and Children's Home located in a small village outside of Budalangi, Kenya.

We help provide financial support for the schools' operating expenses and we deliver nutritional supplementation, school supplies, clothing and shoes on an as needed basis. Helping support the children's basic needs allows them to thrive and increases the effectiveness of their educational programs.

A Partnership of Future Leaders

Jeff Rogers and Girl with Pillars PinIn 2006, we partnered with Carver Academy from San Antonio, Texas, to bring their successful "PILLARS" program (a character building incentive program) and a shipment of much needed school supplies to the orphans of New Hope Academy.

New Hope's children were delighted by the new learning tools and expressed excitement to return to the classroom and learn. Again in 2007, Carver donated school supplies for New Hope with Carver's students operating an on-going fundraising effort for the Kenyan school's operating costs. We now facilitate a cross-continental pen-pal program between Carver Academy's students in the United States and the students at New Hope in Kenya.

Fighting HIV/AIDS in Africa

Very few sub-Saharan African nations have made major progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS due to a wide variety of interplaying circumstances. These factors contribute to the lack of progress:

  • Extreme poverty
  • Lack of infrastructure
  • Lack of education/information
  • Lack of healthcare
  • Government corruption
  • Violent conflict
  • Social stigma
  • Gender inequality
  • Teenage sex work for income generation

All of CLI’s programs are a direct response to the devastation brought about by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

With awareness campaigns functioning in most major African cities, it is the rural populations who are now at greatest risk. CLI's Mobile HIV/AIDS Program reaches out beyond our working community to bring information and understanding to the rural populations. We teach the best methods of prevention and we encourage individuals to know their HIV status so they can protect themselves and those they love.
